Bio
Vivek was born in Chicago, IL in the good year of 1985. For the first 18 years of his life he was truly a nerd - a love for computers, math, books, and everything that a square would do. Then music happened.
At the age of 18, he joined a singing group at Stanford called Raagapella which changed his life forever. He turned from a freshman with no singing experience into one of the star soloists and music director of the group. He sang solos for a number of songs, including a rendition of “Tu Aashiqui Hai” from Jhankaar Beats, arranged music for half of the group’s repertoire, and composed his first song for Raagapella entitled “Without You,” a story of unrequited love.
It was actually through Raagapella and Stanford that he had the chance to meet AR Rahman. Rahman had come to Stanford for a South Asian Music Festival that Vivek helped organized; the two hit it off and Vivek received the offer of a lifetime - the opportunity to work with AR Rahman in his studio.
Since that day, Vivek has composed, arranged orchestral scores, and sung for a number of AR Rahman’s works. He’s also performed with him at the Hollywood Bowl, Oracle Arena, and Delhi Arena during Rahman’s world tours. Recently he recorded a rendition of “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” for Saavn’s Bollystar competition, which he won in 2009 and will now have an opportunity to work Pritam.
Today Vivek is spending his time working on his debut album, a blend of Indian beats and melodies with a traditional R&B feel. Check back often to hear new music from his live performances and studio recordings!
